This popular Mexican pepper has a distinctive, mild heat that is rich, fruity and intense. They are the dried version of the Poblano pepper
Ground Ancho Chile powder is made from the mild outer flesh of the pepper, giving it an intensely rich chili flavour with almost no heat at all. This deep red-brown powder is a great base for Mexican dishes, chili, meat rubs, and sauces. Try it in salsa, stew and on roast chicken.
One of Mexico's most popular peppers, it comes from the state of Puebla. 'Poblano' is the name of a person who lives in Puebla, Mexico. The peppers themselves were “discovered” by Columbus in the Caribbean. In this New World he related what he could back to Europe. The chiles’ heat reminded him of the black peppercorn’s sharp bite so he appropriated the name “pepper.” Europeans and Americans have used the name ever since.
